What and who is MAESA?

MAESA stands for Myanmar Applied Earth Sciences Association. We at MAESA aim to promote the new talent, knowledge and actions necessary for applied earth science practitioners to help solve the resources and environmental sustainability challenges in Myanmar.

MAESA plans to realize this Vision, through three groups of actions.

Conceived in 2016 and established in January 2017, MAESA is a dynamic new organization that recognizes the rich potential in action-orientation and expanding collaboration with international, national and local partners. MAESA 2017 is the first major step in this direction.

For international partners interested in Myanmar’s opening up, and those with a stake in the development of Myanmar’s applied earth sciences, mineral and energy resources, the Inaugural Conference provides exciting opportunities to network, understand and initiate partnerships. Conversely, MAESA 2017 also aims to provide a platform for the next generation of applied earth scientists in Myanmar.

Putting names to MAESA

MAESA was born when a small group of committed professionals – all with earth science backgrounds but having developed along very different paths in life - came together to discuss the human resources, institutional and technological challenges facing applied earth scientists in Myanmar. This group, entirely on a pro bono basis, has committed to making a difference in Myanmar with a focused, action-oriented professional association.
